Breast Enlargement Surgery
At The Alexandra Clinic we understand the concern that small breasts can cause. Breast size is such an important part of a woman's femininity and can have a considerable impact on self-esteem and confidence. We also appreciate that for many people surgery is a big decision, which is why we offer a free consultation, in which we will discuss all the options and answer any questions you may have before you decide whether or not to go ahead with breast enlargement surgery.
What are the benefits of breast enlargement surgery and what sort of problems is it suitable for?
Breast size is genetically determined, so it is very difficult to increase the size of your breasts without surgery. Age causes the shape of the breasts to change and sag, as does pregnancy and breastfeeding. Sometimes one breast can be significantly smaller than the other. All of these issues can be resolved with breast enlargement surgery (also known as breast augmentation or a boob job), which is suitable for most women who wish to increase breast size.
What does breast enlargement surgery involve?
A small incision is made underneath the breast and a pre-formed implant is inserted against the chest wall, either on top or behind the muscle, behind the natural breast tissue. The small scar is concealed in the natural crease underneath the breast.
What types of breast implants are available?
We use the latest silicone implants which consist of a cohesive silicone gel enclosed in a textured outer shell of silicone. These are robust and durable, and do not contain any liquid which could leak to other parts of the body in the event of an accident. Breast implants are available in different profiles and sizes, and your surgeon will talk to you about the options available when you have a consultation. You will also be able to try out different implants by placing them in your bra and seeing which size you feel happy with.
What sort of anaesthetic is available when having breast enlargement surgery?
Breast enlargement surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic, so you will be asleep during the operation.
How long does breast enlargement surgery take?
The surgery only takes about one hour and a one night stay in one of our private hospitals is usually required.
Who will perform the breast enlargement surgery?
A fully qualified specialist Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, who is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons or European equivalent. You will have a consultation with the surgeon who will perform your operation in advance of your surgery.
Where will the breast enlargement surgery be performed?
In a state-of-the-art private hospital which specialises in cosmetic surgery and is registered with the Care Quality Commission.
What is the recovery time following breast enlargement surgery?
The recovery time differs from one person to another, but most people take 10 – 14 days off work following breast enlargement surgery. Usually the area is sensitive and your breasts will feel swollen and harder than usual directly after surgery. This will settle down over the course of two or three weeks. It is recommended that you wear a support bra for four to six weeks after breast surgery and you only partake in light duties for a month after the operation.
What aftercare is provided following breast enlargement surgery?
The operation is now usually being performed as a day case, but an overnight stay may be more appropriate in some cases. One week after surgery you will have a check-up with a nurse, who will remove the dressings and trim the soluble stitches. You will also have consultations with the surgeon one month, 3 months and 6 months after surgery.
Are there any after-effects or associated risks from breast enlargement surgery?
As with most operations, you will experience some post-operative swelling and soreness, but this doesn't usually last long and you should not experience any other side-effects. There are small risks associated with all surgery, but we have successfully treated thousands of patients over the years and use fully qualified specialist surgeons, so risks are minimal. We will be more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have during your consultation.
Can breast enlargement surgery be used in conjunction with other treatments?
How does the process work?
The first step is to arrange a free consultation at our Chester breast enlargement clinic with one of our professional, sympathetic and highly trained counsellors. They will assess your requirements, talk to you about the breast enlargement procedure and give you all the breast enlargement information you need. It is important to us that you feel entirely comfortable with every element of breast enlargement surgery, so there will be no pressure to proceed and we will be happy to answer any queries you may have. If you decide you would like to go ahead, you will have a consultation with the surgeon who is going to perform the procedure, in which you can discuss all the elements of your breast enlargement, agree the type and size of implant and try some implants inside your bra to ensure you are completely happy.
Can I spread the cost of breast enlargement surgery?
At The Alexandra Clinic we want to make breast enlargement surgery affordable for everyone, so we offer finance packages to help you spread the cost. When you come in for a consultation, we can tell you all about our affordable payment plan.
