- Facial Surgery
Because the nose is such a prominent facial feature, people who are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose often find it has a significant impact on their confidence and can cause a great deal of unhappiness. If you are unhappy with the size or shape of your nose, be it a problem that was genetically inherited or as a result of an injury, our nose reshaping (also known as rhinoplasty or a nose job) could be the solution you've been looking for.
What are the benefits of nose reshaping and what sort of problems is it suitable for?
Nose reshaping is suitable for men and women of all ages who are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose. We can reduce the size of the nose, remove the bump on the bridge of the nose, refine the tip of the nose and even correct the nostrils. Nose surgery is the only option available if you want to permanently improve the shape of your nose, and can dramatically enhance your confidence. Except in special circumstances, the operation is performed from the inside of the nose leaving no external scars.
What does nose reshaping surgery involve?
There are various different types of nose surgery available. When the size of the nose is reduced surgically, this is called Reduction Rhinoplasty. The skin itself is not touched – all the surgery is done on the inside of the nose through the nostrils. Some of the bone and cartilage is carefully removed in order to create a smaller nose with a more attractive shape. If the nostrils seem too wide, it may be necessary to narrow them by cutting out a small piece of skin in the floor of the nostril, which only leaves a very fine scar on each side. Following the nose surgery, a protective splint or shield is worn for 5 – 7 days to protect the nose and hold the bones in place.
What sort of anaesthetic is available when having nose surgery?
Nose reshaping is usually performed under general anaesthetic, so you will be asleep during the operation.
How long does nose reshaping take?
The surgery usually takes 1¼ – 1½ hours and a one night stay in one of our private hospitals is usually required.
Who will perform the nose surgery?
A fully qualified specialist Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, who is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons or European equivalent. You will have a consultation with the surgeon who will perform the procedure in advance of your surgery.
Where will the nose reshaping be performed?
In a state-of-the-art private hospital which specialises in cosmetic surgery and is registered with the Care Quality Commission.
What is the recovery time following nose reshaping surgery?
The recovery time differs from one person to another but most people take about 10 days off work. After the surgery there is usually some bruising and swelling under the eyes. Discomfort is usually mild and can be controlled with Paracetamol. Facial activity should be kept to a minimum for at least a week after nose reshaping surgery.
What aftercare is provided following nose reshaping?
The operation is now usually being performed as a day case, but an overnight stay may be more appropriate in some cases. You will have a check-up with the clinic nurse 5 – 7 days after the surgery. You will also have consultations with the surgeon at 2 – 3 weeks, 3 months and as appropriate.
Are there any after-effects or associated risks from nose reshaping surgery?
As with most operations, there is usually some post-operative swelling, bruising and soreness after the surgery, but this gradually fades over the course of one or two weeks and you shouldn't experience any other side-effects. There are small risks associated with all surgery, but we have successfully treated thousands of patients over the years and use fully qualified specialist surgeons, so risks are minimal. We will be more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have during your consultation.
Can nose reshaping be used in conjunction with other treatments?
Sometimes it is possible to have other cosmetic procedures in conjunction with nose surgery. If you are considering other cosmetic procedures, we can provide you with advice during your consultation.
How does the process work?
The first step is to arrange a free consultation at our Chester nose surgery clinic with one of our professional, sympathetic and highly trained counsellors.
