Thread Vein Removal

Unsightly broken veins or thread veins are a common problem which effect many people, especially as they get older. They tend to appear on the legs and can be a considerable source of embarrassment. The tendency to thread veins is often hereditary and can be very difficult to prevent. Fortunately, at The Alexandra Clinic we have a highly effective, non-surgical way of eliminating thread veins and restoring your confidence, called Sclerotherapy.

What are the benefits of the thread vein removal treatment and who is it suitable for?

Sclerotherapy is suitable for men and women of any age, and is an affordable solution for people who want to get rid of thread veins. It is a simple, non-surgical procedure, which can be performed quickly and easily at our clinic in Chester.

What does the thread vein removal treatment involve?

A sclerosing fluid is injected through a very fine needle into the vein in the area being treated. This flushes and blanches the thread veins in the immediate area. The injections are repeated if necessary at four to six week intervals until all the veins have been treated. The injected solution causes the thread veins to shrink together and disappear.

How long does thread vein removal treatment take?

This is dependant on how many areas are being treated, but it usually only takes 20 – 30 minutes.

What results can I expect from thread vein removal treatment and how long do the results last for?

The number of treatments required is dependant on the extent of the problem. Sometimes one treatment is sufficient, while other times it is necessary to repeat the treatment at four to six week intervals. Once a vein has been treated, it will disappear and won't need to be treated again.

What is the recovery time following the thread vein removal treatment?

No recovery time is necessary and you may return home immediately. You may resume all normal activities, although we would recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise or long periods of standing for the first 24 hours.

Does thread vein removal carry any associated risks or side effects?

There may be mild swelling or redness in the treated area, but this will settle within a few days.

Can this treatment be used in conjunction with other treatments?

Sclerotherapy is normally used in isolation to get rid of thread veins. If you are considering other cosmetic procedures, we can provide you with advice during your consultation.

Who will be performing the thread vein removal treatment?

Our highly trained nurse therapist, who has been performing this treatment for many years and also trains other doctors and nurses in injection techniques.
